Love is Immortal, never dies!!
For the beach lovers Goa is a amongst most fav. beaches and me too not different but yes the place which attracted me was DONA PAULA & Gaspar Dias beach.India's history is dotted with tales of legendary lovers who embraced death immortalizing only their love but the places where they lived, loved and died. Popular legends like Heer- Ranjha, Soni Mehwal, Shirin-Far had and Laila-Maznu this beach depicts love story of a poor Goan boy & a Portuguese princess both of whom proffered death to separation and this beach is named after the to dignify their love and surprisingly Paula and Gaspar continue to draw tourist to Goa from all over the world. Legend has it that Paula was a beautiful princess, the niece of one of the Portuguese Governors. The family lived in a place in Goa called Cabo. Gaspar was an ebony hued, handsome boy whose father was a carpenter working in the palace grounds and who was responcible for the maintenance of the Governor's sailing craft, it was the workshop where he met Paula. It is said that Paula & Gaspar met for the first time just as dawn was breaking, filling the sky with those very special colors that only first fingers of light can bring. Paula was on her way to beach and Gasper followed her, sitting on the sand while she swam deep in reverie, Gasper discovered a beautiful conch shell half buried on the beach. He blew into it gently and Paula came out of water towards him. They do not speak not necessary even. Gasper spoke konkani and Paula was Portuguese so its imposible for her to understand his launguage but love flowered silent yet strong. their love spread to all and so came their part of separation which was not accepted by the two hearts. The last time conch shell blew again and again in the air and tormented soul, the lovers tied themselves together with the silken bale Paula brought and jumped into the swollen Mandovi. And from then on,the spot where the dead bodies were found was named after Gaspar; it is called Gaspar Dias and the place where they met so often is referred to as Dona Paula. If you too happen to visit Goa, take a trip to Dona Paula & Gaspar Dias. & feel that love never dies.
